The Fermasee is originally an old Rhine arm, which was used for a long time as a quarry lake. Parts of the shore are designated as a nature reserve and are closed to visitors. There are, however, several viewpoints from which the waterfowl can be observed on the lake.

Lake Ferma is an quarry pond. Decades ago, an oxbow river of the Rhine was dredged to extract gravel and sand and Lake Ferma was created. To protect, especially the bird life, boating and diving are not permitted on the lake. Swimming is permitted in the southeastern area and there is also a parking lot there. The swimming season runs from April 15th to October 15th. of every year.
