Wow! Absolutely impressive, which Mother Nature washed out of the limestone rock over time. If you pass by, it is definitely worth a short stop or a short walk on countless steps that lead you into the cave, which is so inconspicuous from below.

Count Franz Erwein von Schönborn had the giant castle made accessible by means of paths and stairs. This was done on the occasion of a visit by the Bavarian King Ludwig I, who visited the cave at the beginning of the 19th century. A couplet by the king carved into the rock at the lookout point above the cave commemorates this visit: "Following the wind, the clouds come to the rock and then retreat, but the rock stands unchanging in time."
