The Rheinau weir is an important structure on the Upper Rhine, which serves both as part of the Rheinau power plant and as a border crossing between Germany and Switzerland. It consists of a weir with four wide openings designed for maximum flooding.
The dam of the Rhine by the weir is about 5.9 meters and shortens the river course from about 4.4 kilometers to about 400 meters. The water is channeled through the power plant and then returns to the Rhine. The weir bridge itself is about 117 meters long.
