"Sortland Kirke" is probably the oldest building in the city. It dates from 1901 and has a beautiful altar in its church tower. The church tower is much older, however. An inscription on the bell indicates the year 1476. It is one of the oldest church towers in Norway.

When visiting Sortland, a visit to the church is a must. The church stands alone on the outskirts of Sortland and is therefore good to look at. The church is a long wooden cruciform church in neo-Gothic style and was consecrated in 1901.
The previous church, built around 1776, was demolished in 1902. The tower survives and now stands at the entrance to the memorial cemetery on the old church grounds in Sortland. The clock in the tower has an inscription from 1476.
