St. John's, the mighty "Friesendom", was built in the 13th century. The baptismal font is one hundred years older. The precious carved altar dates from the late 15th century. In the shadow of St. Johannis, sailors are buried, who returned safe from all journeys and could enjoy their retirement on the home island. Around 40,000 people visit the cemetery of St. Johannis every year with its special gravestones.
