Burgdorf Castle sits enthroned on a mighty rock. Around 1200, Duke Berchtold V of Zähringen had the older castle replaced by today's mighty palace. At that time, Burgdorf was one of the central bases and preferred residences of this noble family from the Black Forest.
Today the castle is the largest, most complete and best-preserved castle complex in Zähring.

Sleeping in Burgdorf Castle? Yes, it's possible, and you can do so in the youth hostel. It's actually located in the castle itself!
The rooms within the old walls have been skillfully designed in a modern style, creating a cozy atmosphere. There are various room sizes (double, family, four-, and six-bed rooms), a restaurant, and as a guest, you can even visit the castle museum for free. There's a bike room or bicycle shelter for your bike.
