The Wienerbergteich: An oasis in the city

The Wienerberg recreation area with its artificial pond and the largest stock of reeds in the south of Vienna is located in Favoriten, the most populous district in Vienna. The haven of peace in the middle of the urban jungle hides many a secret.

In the 1960s, the Wienerberg factory was finally closed because the clay quarrying was unprofitable. The Wienerbergteich is 12 hectares in size and is nothing more than the excavation of these brick works. After the factory was closed, the area was used by the city of Vienna to dump rubble. The city's forest rangers then took over the area and transformed it into a recreation area.
