The old cemetery was created in the 1950s as the botanical garden and educational garden of the city of Minden. The remodeling of the site, which is under monument protection, took place after the cemetery was abandoned as the main burial site of the city of Minden from 1951. [4] The first plans for this, however, were made as early as 1920 when the first steps towards the park were initiated. In addition, a botanical nature trail and a rock garden, as well as a rose garden and a water garden were created.

As part of the Königsglacis, a botanical garden has been created on the west side of the park ring on an area of 5.5 hectares. [11] This area was originally the Old Cemetery of Minden, the first burial place of the city outside the fortress ring. Received are a number of burial sites and old trees. The redevelopment of the listed site was done after abandonment of the cemetery as the main burial ground of the city of Minden from 1951. Even today, urn burials are still being carried out in the cemetery.
