The New Church was built between 1643 and 1648 towards the end of the Thirty Years' War by Martin Faber, an architect and councilor from Emden. Originally it had neither an organ nor stalls, so that the worshipers had to stand. Both were only installed in 1818.
When Emden was destroyed on September 6, 1944, the church burned down to the outer walls and was rebuilt in 1949/1950 with great commitment and under high financial burdens by the citizens of Emden.
