The suspension bridge spans the river Mulde and thus connects the urban area of Grimma with the city park, whose paths lead further into the monastery and mill valley.
After a flood destroyed the first wooden barrel bridge, the suspension bridge was built in 1924.
In 1945 it was blown up and restored in 1949. During the devastating flood in 2002, the structure was severely damaged.
Today it has been completely restored and delights visitors as Saxony's longest rope suspension bridge with a span of 80 metres.
