Oberthal is a district in the Herrenstrunden district of Bergisch Gladbach. The Oberthal farm was probably built in the Franconian period (9th / 10th centuries). In the original cadastre, the settlement was first documented under the name Zum Dall in 1520 with three houses. The estate was given the name Oberthal in 1694 in order to distinguish it from the neighboring Unterthal. According to a lease from 1520, the Johanniterkommende Herrenstrunden was the owner of the complex. In 1806 the secularization court became state owned. It has been privately owned since October 7, 1829.
