The market place Ötisheim is on the outskirts, but in the center of village life.
Ötisheim has history. From 835 AD, Ötisheim was an important supply point for the Maulbronn monastery. Ötisheim often played a role in various skirmishes during the Thirty Years' War and afterwards.

According to older traditions, Ötisheim was first mentioned in a document in 756 AD, when the Weissenburg monastery in Alsace received goods from “Autinesheim”. Almost all places in the local area began their documented history in the documents of this monastery or those of the Lorsch monastery. The donation book of Lorsch Abbey mentions Ötisheim no less than ten times over the course of 77 years.
