Salamis was an Iron Age city-kingdom and an ancient city at the mouth of the Pediaeus River in the east of the Mediterranean island. Since the 11th century BC, Salamis held the leading role among the Cypriot city-kingdoms. Initially a relatively small city with a necropolis on its western edge, it expanded in three directions from the 8th century BC onward (Wikipedia)

The mythical founder of Salamis was Teukros, son of Telamon, the king of the Greek island of Salamis of the same name. He is said to have landed on Cyprus after the destruction of Troy, where Zeus built a temple and married Eune, the daughter of Kinyras. His father-in-law was, from an incest connection with Eune's sister Smyrna, the father of Adonis. Teukros founded a city in Cyprus, which he named after his home island Salamis.
