After its construction, the church was initially used as a Roman Catholic place of worship. She received the patron saint of Saint Laurentius. With the change of the count's denominations in 1544 to the Evangelical-Lutheran faith and in 1588 to the Evangelical-Reformed faith, the use of the church also changed.
The nave was built in stages, the oldest part probably dates from 1355 and consists of a single-nave, cruciform building with today's fourth bay as crossing and today's crossing as chancel, as well as the second and third bay and the aisles of the fourth bay .
