Church of the Immaculate Conception, dependent on the parish of Castrojeriz in the Archdiocese of Amaya, Diocese of Burgos

The parish church of Hontanas, presided over by a tall and strong tower, is dedicated to the Immaculate Conception. It was built primitively in Gothic style, in the fourteenth century, although neoclassical reformed with the passage of time. It houses a Baroque altarpiece by the mountaineer Fernando de la Peña. Inside there is a beautiful copper processional cross with enamel and figures from the thirteenth century, the style suggests that it is Spanish manufacture, late Romanesque style.

This church touched and transformed us from the first moment with its mystical atmosphere. Taizé songs from CD, nicely designed prayer area, hot tea, candles and good lyrics. The pictures of important witnesses of humanity are also very impressive. Certainly one of the most touching spiritual places on the Camino.

The Parish Church of the Immaculate Conception: This church, dependent on the parish of Castrojeriz, houses a baroque altarpiece by the mountaineer Fernando de la Peña. The church was built attached to the palace of the bishop (former lord of the town) and preserves a Gothic arch. Its factory, of large proportions and neoclassical style, stands out for the large tower in three sections, crowned by a half-orange dome. Although originally built in the Gothic style in the 14th century, it has been neoclassically renovated over time.
