The building originally dates from the 1360s. Against the background of military conflicts between the county of Arnsberg and the county of Mark, the fortifications of Neheim Castle were being reinforced at this time. For this purpose, among other things, the Fresekenhof was built on the city wall.

The "Fresekenhof" was built on the city wall in the 1360s to reinforce Neheim Castle. In 1377 it was transferred to the castle owner Wilhelm Freseken as a castle fief.
Transferred to the von Boenninghausen family in the 17th century. Today, Ferdinand Lothar von Boenninghausen's initials and year of death (1680) can be found on the entrance facade. 1802 to 1893 seat of court, since 1980 owned by the city of Arnsberg.
Around 1820 the house was converted into its current classicist shape.
