Starting point of the Swabian Alb cycle path is in Nördlingen. Here you can easily get on the regional train from Donauwörth or Aalen. Before you set off, it is worthwhile to visit the old town of Nördlingen, which is surrounded by a well-preserved city wall. Then you swing on your bike and start driving. You leave Nördlingen through one of the historic gates in the city wall and roll on a flat stretch along the Eger along the Nördlinger Ries. This was created about 14.6 million years ago by a meteorite impact. In Bopfingen you reach the crater rim. In the pretty town you can take a first break and strengthen yourself for the onward journey, because behind Bopfingen you climb in a short but crisp rise the crater rim of the Nördlinger Rieses.Once at the top, you cycle gently up and down over wide fields and through refreshing forests. On the way you come in the rural area again and again through charming villages, where you can take breaks and partially feed you in inns or bakeries. On the last kilometers of the first stage you will enjoy a wonderful descent down to Aalen, the stage destination. Here you have a large selection of accommodation and also connection to the train.
