160 kilometers of hiking fun await you on the Erzweg, which meanders between Pegnitz and Kastl through the fabulous landscape. On this hike, you can not only experience a multi-faceted nature, but also immerse yourself in the history of this region: In the past, ore was mined here and this has left its mark on the "Ruhr area of the Middle Ages". In the woods are abandoned tunnels, pings and small lakes. Even in the places the montangeschichtliche past is still visible. The Erzweg starts at the station in Pegnitz and leads you south. On unspoiled paths, you will hike over rolling hills, encountering impressive rock formations such as the Rabenfels and the Vogelherdgrotte. The mighty karst cave of the Vogelherdgrotte can be entered from two sides and is a popular hiking destination due to its size. Immerse yourself in the geological features of the Frankenalb, which is also a paradise for climbers.A large part of the route you are in quiet forests on the move, which now offer a magnificent play of colors in autumn. In between are small towns and interesting cities where you can stop in and stay overnight. Cultural highlights on the Erzweg are above all the idyllically situated monastery Michelfeld, the medieval castle ruin Lichtenegg and the imposing pilgrimage church Maria Hilf. The beautiful autumn landscape, with its orange, brown and yellow tones, is intersected by valleys and rivers with cozy resting places. Thus, at the Seven Springs, babbling brooks meander through the forest and form an important habitat for animals and insects. On the last section to your destination Kastl you wander through the fantastic Lauterachtal. Here the path leads right along the stream and lets you feel the calming power of the water. The Erzweg offers a unique natural and cultural experience in a unique way, as few hikes can.
