The Way of St. James between Nuremberg and Rothenburg ob der Tauber is affectionately called the "Franconian Camino". He is the oldest signposted way in Germany in Jacob's footsteps, one of the twelve apostles of Jesus. Actually, this path always begins right on the doorstep of the pilgrim or pilgrim. At the very end of the long road, in the north-west of Spain, there is a cathedral in Santiago de Compostela, which is revered as the burial place of James.Of course, you do not have to go that far: at the beginning of the 90s, the idea of pilgrimage was hardly known. At that time, the pastor of Heilsbronn, Paul Geißendörfer, discovered that many churches are located between Nuremberg and Rothenburg, which bear the name of James. They are strung like pearls on a string. The Wegemeister of the Franconian Albverein have the pilgrimage then marked in a southwestern direction with a white shell on a blue background and look after him like a trail. The stage leads 97 kilometers through a very attractive landscape. In 3 - 5 days, this route is easy to handle. The parishes are friendly connected by the Way of St. James. In the churches lie blue pilgrim cards with texts and songs. You can just rest, listen to the silence, or take a look around the small villages or stop off. The neighbors along the way are always happy to help.If you have arrived in Rothenburg, you should take some time and visit the medieval city. A cheap and solid accommodation option has been around for some time in the gypsum mill at Wildbad in the south of the city. From there you can then rested through the Tauber Valley to another stage to Ulm, to Rottenburg am Neckar or to Speyer.Accommodation:Hotel Goldener Stern, Ansbacher Str. 3, 91560 Heilsbronn.
