3rd day of our Dolomite tours: Around the Lankofel Group.
We start at the valley station of the mountain railway at Plan de Gralba and drive on gravel paths up to the Sellajoch and on to Forcella di Col Rodella (2308m). The Friedrich-August-Weg begins here on the south side of the Plattkofel. After a few meters we reach the Friedrich-August-Hütte. From here it is necessary to push the bike with the masses of hikers and to be able to ride short sections again. After about three kilometers we reach the Sandro Pertini hut; From here it is then a matter of carrying the bike up short steps over steps until we reach the Plattkofelhütte after another four km. From here on cycling is the order of the day. After a very steep descent we reach the Berggasthof Zallinger. From here we drive along the western foot of the Sassolungo Group in a dreamlike landscape, always with great views over the Alpe di Siusi to the Sciliar. We reach the mountain station of the cable car to Monte Seura on well-drivable gravel roads on the north side of Sassolungo. After a short descent we pass the Malga Cason, a small rustic hut, before we have the most difficult part of the Sassolungo tour ahead of us. We have to use serpentines to push our bikes up roughly one kilometer and about 250 vertical meters up to the Comici hut along rough gravel roads. We leave the hut, which is appreciated even by gourmets, on the right and enjoy the rapid downhill back to the parking lot at Plan de Gralba. Conclusion: Scenic tour, but not recommended by bike, because too many pushing and carrying sections make cycling too short.
