The Bärensteig is named after Bernkastel-Kues' heraldic animal, the bear. The hiking trail leads you in a loop into the Hunsrück and back to the Moselle. It starts on the right side of the Moselle at the western tip of Bernkastel-Kues. Right at the beginning you hike uphill. Past vineyards it goes into the wild and romantic forest. Here the Kallenfelsbach babbles in the immediate vicinity of the hiking trail and creates an adventurous atmosphere, especially when crossing it.After a little over two kilometers you have made the ascent and it continues to descend slightly. Here you hike past extensive meadows and enjoy wonderful views of the Hunsrück and into the Eifel. Shortly after entering the forest again, you will pass the Golden Cross, a lookout rock. As you descend again towards Bernkastel-Kues, the starting point of the tour, you can enjoy a great view of Landshut Castle and the roofs of Bernkastel-Kues.
