This multi-faceted tour takes you through the dreamlike wine region of the Palatinate in two days. In autumn, the vines are hard on the sticks and the leaves begin to change color. You start in Bockenheim, which marks the northernmost point of the German Wine Route. In the hilly landscape, which lies west of the Rhine plain, you can enjoy not only great views but also noble drops. On the way to Bad Dürkheim we take you to extraordinary places like the castle Battenberg or a Roman winery. The beautiful wine hike starts at the station Bockenheim-Kindenheim. Depending on the train connection, one and a half to two hours can be deducted for the journey from Frankfurt (bahn.de and vrn.de/index.html). From the station, walk west. The first stop you can insert in the imposing house of the German Wine Route. Here you can find a lot of information about the region and a nice restaurant.Through a sea of colorful leaves and grapes you follow the trail through the countryside. In doing so, you will pass by the so-called trulli, which in former times served as protection for the workers. Originally the round stone buildings come from Puglia in Italy, also a beautiful wine region. On your way south you will pass the wine hiking hut Asselheim, which is farmed on weekends and public holidays. Here you can enjoy the fantastic panorama with a glass of wine in your hand.Up and down the hill you wander through the beautiful cultural landscape up to Battenberg Castle. The imposing ruin sits enthroned on a rock and the view into the wide Rhine plain is unique. In the leafy courtyard lurid paths invite for a walk and parts of the castle ruins, such as the lookout tower, are accessible. In the garden of the rustic Burgschänke you can take a break. The last part of this stage you walk in the midst of the grapevines to Herxheim on the mountain. In the quiet place you can end the day with a glass of wine.
