On the second day you have the opportunity to explore the beautiful Bensheim. The market square is the center of the city and is framed by traditional half-timbered houses. Nearby you can visit the Church of St.Georg and the Red Tower. You leave Bensheim heading north and wander up the slope of the Kirchberg to Schönberg Castle. Parts of the castle were already built in the 13th century. Especially beautiful is the courtyard with the round tower and the detailed painting on the windows. The further hiking trail leads you through colorful mixed forest along the state park Fürstenlager. At high cities, you cross the Mühltalstraße and then wander up to the impressive Auerbach Castle. As you walk through the ruins, you can imagine the splendor of bygone days. A special highlight are the well-preserved towers, from which you have a wonderful view of the Odenwald, the Rhine plain and the Melibokus. The castle tavern invites you to take a break with regional delicacies. After you have explored the castle ruins extensively, we lead you to the Melibokus. The highest mountain at 517 meters on the South Hessian mountain road is a popular destination for hikers and mountain bikers. Here you can enjoy the great view and watch the paragliders take off in good weather. From the highest point of your multi-day hike, it goes down to the next medieval complex, the castle Alsbach. Here you can explore the ancient walls, bridges and towers. The interesting herb garden in the castle courtyard is also worth a visit.About curved forest roads you get to Zwingenberg. From there train station you can start the journey home to Frankfurt, which takes about three quarters of an hour.
