Between 1840 and 1880 was the heyday of the sand farmers who mined here at Stonefeller white sandstone sandstone and grinded in sand mills to fine Fes sand. They sold this as a cleaning and scouring agent for wooden floors and vessels. Later, when metal kitchen utensils and parquet or linoleum floors were used, other detergents were needed. That's why in 1935 the last sand mills were closed.
