Hiking Highlight (Segment)
DB Regio Schleswig-Holstein planned a hike.
July 3, 2019
This 14-kilometer hike will show you Kiel from a different angle: Instead of shopping streets and along the harbor, you will walk past lakes and up the Cuckoo Mountain. Arrived at the central station Kiel it goes by bus to the start of the tour in Kiel district Neumühlen-Dietrichsdorf.At the beginning, the trail leads you along the banks of the Schwentine. You can watch the river on the last meters of its journey to the mouth into the Kiel Fjord. Then you turn right, walk on field and meadow paths past some homes until you reach the nature reserve Tröndelsee. The waters are surrounded by wet meadows, alder-rupture forests and some pastureland that are grazed for the care of cattle. A wooden path leads you through the swampy landscape. The wet meadows are popular with the waterfowl as well as the orchids.Right next door is the Langsee, which is surrounded by shrubs and trees. At the southern end of the lake rises the cuckoo's mountain. A varied path leads you over the wooded hill.Gradually, you leave the green oases behind you and dive back into the lively city life. Once in the center, you can have a good time with coffee and cake in the "Blue Angel" right on the quay wall. The train station is only a stone's throw away.Arrival and departure: After Kiel it is super comfortable from all directions - Lübeck, Flensburg, Hamburg and Husum - with the trains of the DB Regio Schleswig-Holstein. From the central station in Kiel you can get to Neumühlen-Dietrichsdorf in about 20 minutes by bus 60S. Get off at Schwentinestraße.
