The Birkenfelder Land is part of the Hunsrück-Hochwald National Park with its unique landscape, the habitat of numerous rare animal and plant species. What could be more natural than to discover this beautiful habitat silently and emission-free by bicycle? Here you drive through mysterious hillside moors, through vast forests with ancient trees and only rarely do other people cycle or cross paths with you here. Nature and tranquility awaits you on this beautiful tour through the national park with a stopover at the Nonnweiler reservoir.Start of the tour is in bridges - from here it goes first a while uphill, into the shady forests of the beautiful national park. The small, historic Forsthaus Neuhof is a good reason for a short break - here you can get a nice impression of how the forestry workers once lived here. Pedaled a few more times and there is a beautiful passage that leads you mainly downhill to the Nonnweiler reservoir. The circumnavigation of the lake is pure pleasure. The route here is flat, you cycle slightly above the lakeshore and have always great views of the dark blue water surface of the largest reservoir of the Saarland. If you feel like it, you can always stop at the stations of the Planetenradwegs, which leads around the lake. Text and image panels as well as true-to-scale planetary models provide a lot of information here.On the way back you cycle again through the shady forest. Over the old Erzweg you come directly into the small town of Abentheuer, where the old ironworks is an exciting and informative highlight of the tour. Then you can roll out about 1.5 kilometers to the starting point of the tour.
