The ViaStockalper leads through deep ravines and wide larch forests from Brig over the Simplon Pass to Gondo. Historic traffic routes and enchanting moorland landscapes offer you an exciting mix of nature and culture on the way. You can walk the just over 30 kilometer long hiking trail in three stages. The milestones are Simplonpass and Simplon Dorf.Already in the 13th century there was pass traffic over the Simplon. In the 17th century Kaspar Stockalper then built the way to offer a secure trade link across the Alps. After Stockalper had disappeared from the political scene, trade broke down over the pass and the mule track he had created fell into disrepair. In the 1990s, the trail was reactivated and today is a varied cultural hiking route where you can discover ancient trade routes from three eras.
