In the medieval town of Estavayer-le-Lac begins the circular walk along the southern shore of Lake Neuchâtel. Here is the Grande Cariçaie - a riparian landscape with a nature reserve and the largest contiguous lake wetland in Switzerland, home to around 800 plant species and over 10,000 animal species. From Estavayer-le-Lac you walk directly into the nature reserve of Cheyres, which extends on the shores of the lake just outside the city. Here, only pedestrians and cyclists are allowed in and thus you enjoy a wonderful silence, which is only broken by the sounds of nature. After leaving the sanctuary, climb up to the villa quarter and follow a path through woods and meadows back towards Estavayer-le-Lac. In some places you can enjoy impressive views of the Grande Cariçaie and the Jura.Back in Estavayer-le-Lac you can end the day with a stroll through the pretty streets of the city or a stop at the numerous restaurants and cafes on the shores of the lake.
