A great ride along one side of the Tyne and back along the other. Gateshead side is surprisingly like being in the country and you get close to the river. Some excellent info boards on both sides. The ferry is a gem (60p with a bus pass!). You see much that you never would from a car. Both routes use old railway lines. What bits that are on road, are safe and well signed. You need to spend time and linger to get the most out of this ride.
