Hi! Is the route suited for a road bike or is a gravel bike needed?
Thanks!
@Douwe if you look at the terrain mostly asphalt
I used the route coincidently from the coast - down the A897 and the up and over the hill to come down Glen Loth when I did JOGLE Dunnet Head/Lizard in 2018. The climb up from the A897 was hard going - lots of mossies and horse flies but great views. The A897 was a complete pleasure to ride.
I'm doing this next week, so the A897 is the road Mark takes as a deviation from the standard route? IS this right? On the video it looks awesome.
Three of us rode this exact route last week in near perfect conditions. Good quality roads everywhere except the climb up and over to Glen Loth, but even that is fine on a 25mm tyre road bike. Enjoy it, the two variants from the 'official' 500 route are far better for bicycles and take you well away…
Would you recommend to do this route in late September?
I'm doing this route next week. Please can anyone advise if I stick to this route will I avoid the A9? I'm doing it on my own.
Did this a few months back, over 5 days, on my own. I stuck 99% to this Route. You only come onto the A9 just before Brora and it's only a few Kms at most. Check out my profile to see my route. Happy to help if you have more questions.
The video say it was completed in January, but judging from the video I don't think that was proper winter,
I was planning on going late December early January, not in 3 days tho.
Would anyone recommend a winter 500m?
MaDonna, I did this exact route in August over 5 days. I was lucky with the weather. Have you experienced Scottish winter before on the North west coast? Some of the roads could be closed, plus many businesses are already closed due to covid. You'd need proper planning and proper winter gear plus a…
Hi guys, it is such a pleasure to watch your movies! 😃 I were in Scotland many years ago on a bike and riding trough it. Fond memory’s indeed which you refreshed a bit. In contrast to you by that time I had so much stuff with me - but I learned my lessons. ;) Right now I am midst building up my new…
