Road Cycling Highlight
Planned by Kufsteinerland
The Kitzbüheler Horn is a true classic and a "must" on the bucket list of every racing cyclist. Not for nothing is the challenging climb part of the Tour of Austria with mountain arrival at the Alpenhaus. The actual increase is around ten kilometers long and with an average gradient of 12.5 percent, sometimes up to 22 percent, a real challenge. It is the highlight of this approximately 130-kilometer tour that starts from Kufstein. The round starts flat and leads you through the picturesque Schwemm moorland, past the Walchsee and through the beautiful valley of the Großache to St. Johann in Tirol. Shortly thereafter, the Tourcharakter changes - now it goes steeply uphill for about ten kilometers, until you finally reach the Kitzbüheler Horn at 1,970 meters altitude. Past the Alpenhaus (where the climb ends for the pros), you follow the last part of the road, which is closed to traffic and takes you to the top - to the breathtaking view in all directions. The subsequent descent is a dream - racing pleasure par excellence. The return journey is via a quiet road that leads you through Kohlental to Schwend. On the way you can strengthen yourself in the "wild cheese". If you later feel like a "spiritual refreshment", a stop in the beautiful St. Nikolaikirche in Ebbs offers. From there, there are only about eight flat kilometers back to Kufstein.
