This tour largely follows the official "Geisberg Tour", one of three specially laid mountain bike routes that run around the cozy market town Heiligenstadt. With almost 42 kilometers and 820 vertical meters, it provides enough material for a few great hours on the bike. The special feature of the route, however, is that it runs in the shape of an eight: so you can easily cut it to about half the distance. This bike tour attracts with the typical specialties of the Franconian Switzerland: Cozy villages, great vantage points, tempting rest stops and of course fantastic trails. A special highlight on the route is the dry valley to the Heroldsmühle, a green paradise through which but no brook flows. Only after heavy rainfall the water bubbles out of the ground and transforms the dry valley into a humid and happy idyll.Heiligenstadt has no connection to the railway network, so it's best to travel by car. However, the cozy place is a nice base camp for a longer stay in the Franconian Switzerland dar. Just plan a few more days, then you can comfortably roll from the hotel or inn to the start of the tour.

Anyone who knows the many trails in the Franconian region will be disappointed with this tour. I tried to find at least a few trails with a couple of side trips. This tour runs, except for a few meters, on forest roads, bike paths and roads. If you are on a trekking or gravel bike, you will get your money's worth.
However, the landscape is a pleasure.
