Zähringer Wanderweg Etappe 2: Staufen im Breisgau - Freiburg im Breisgau
Hiking Highlight (Segment)
(Rad-)Wanderin went for a hike.
December 2, 2021
Today we went - equipped with an umbrella and jacket - on the second stage of the Zähringer hiking trail. The starting point was the Staufen Süd train station, where I had finished the first stage. The tour first took me along the banks of the Neumagen, then through the lovely city center of Staufen and uphill through a residential area, from where you had a beautiful view of the Burgberg and the Kaiserstuhl. Then I followed the beggar's path on beautiful, narrow, but often muddy paths through the gray-brown forest and through meadows to Bollschweil. From there it went a bit into the Möhlintal and in the increasing sleet further uphill to the Salenberg chapel, from where the landmarks drawn in the panorama board could only be guessed with a lot of imagination. After Sölden, I followed a beautiful and panoramic path under overhanging trees, from where you could even today look to the Vosges and as far as Freiburg. Finally I reached an urban area, crossed Au and a residential area on Lorettoberg and enjoyed the view over Freiburg city center on the way down. From the foot of the Lorettoberg I couldn't find any more signposts and ran, with luck, through a residential area in the direction of Dreisam. I followed the riverside path for a while (please do not imitate it, there is too much going on on the FR1 rapid cycle path) and walked into town to the Schwabentor, where the third and last stage of the Zähringer hiking path would start. We went through the Christmas decorated and illuminated city center, with a detour to the Müster and the Colombischlösschen to the train station. Conclusion: The beggar path and the route on the edge of the Hexental were beautiful, even in rainy weather. The Hexental adventure trail with its countless, really well-made information boards on flora and fauna is also worth recommending. Overall, the tour was a bit asphalt-heavy, but that can hardly be avoided with this route.
