The Isar in the Munich area has many faces. In the middle of the city, it is a small haven, yet always surrounded by the urban flair of the city. The further you get out of the city, the more idyllic it gets. But wherever you follow the Isar, there is (almost) always something in common: along the river run beautiful natural paths and trails that are ideal for walking. This route starts at Grünwalder Brücke and leads you south. Here slowly but surely ends the urban influence of the city and you walk along the idyllic river, which shows itself from its very quiet and natural side. Often you are spoiled for choice: different paths lead either directly along the water or slightly above the bank slopes. It is worthwhile to come back and try out all the variations. At the turning point of the tour, the route changes direction and leads back north. You already have about ten kilometers in your legs. Time for a little break? Directly on the Isarwerkkanaldamm a beer garden invites to. Just a little further on the Klosterbräustüberl of the magnificent Schäftlarn Abbey is a great alternative. Freshly strengthened, you are ready for the return journey, which again follows the Isar, until you have arrived at the starting point, the Grünwalder bridge.Of course, you can drive to the start of your run. The S-Bahn is even easier: the S7 line goes from Munich central station to the Höllriegelskreuth stop. From here it is about 400 meters to the start of the route.
