Hiking Highlight (Segment)

The Karwendel Höhenweg is a long-distance hiking trail that leads over 60 kilometers through Austria's largest nature park. It also offers a great way to discover the breathtaking alpine world at a walking pace. However, 60 kilometers and around 7,000 meters in altitude are a bit too much for a single run. Of course, because of the distance, but also because the road itself is quite demanding and requires physical fitness and surefootedness. If you want to experience the unique insights into the Tyrolean mountains in a single run, then our variant of parts of the mountain trail is just right for you. But be aware that the route is a challenging run in alpine terrain. Part of the trail leads over narrow serpentine walkways, which are even secured with wire ropes. Allow enough time, consider a possible change in the weather, and bring enough food and a first aid kit.The Karwendel High Trail leads past the top station of the Seegrubenbahn, which we take advantage of. From Innsbruck you can be relaxed from the cable car to the start of the route - your run begins directly at over 1,800 meters altitude. Over demanding mountain trails, you will now first run steeply uphill to the Mühlkarscharte, from where you will enjoy an absolutely breathtaking view of Innsbruck and the Stubai Alps. Now it goes up and down on tight nature trails, which are sometimes so steep that they are secured with wire ropes - demanding, but enjoyable! On the way the Bettelwurf hut is a great opportunity for a short break. Then the descent begins down to the Inn valley to Hall. Here you can relax in the cozy old town and then take the S-Bahn (line S1) in a few minutes back to Innsbruck.
