Spandau really doesn't lack one thing: water! The Havel stretches kilometer by kilometer along the westernmost district of Berlin. With this tour we don't just show you the popular banks of the Havel. With the Grimnitz and Südparksee you will discover two picturesque bodies of water in the middle of Spandau, which develop a wonderful flair, especially in winter. If it has been particularly cold for a long time, it is even worthwhile to pack ice skates. With the S-Bahn lines S3 and S9 you whiz out to Spandau in a warm wagon every 20 minutes. Quickly put on your gloves and wrapped up in your winter clothes, you stroll to the banks of the Havel. Even in the cold season you can see the mighty cargo ships passing here. You only move away from the water for a short distance, then it goes through the Grimnitzpark over a narrow headland to a pretty vantage point on the Frey Bridge. Countless cars roll here day after day from the city center to Spandau and back. A small path leads you past the Grimnitzsee, which was created in the third last Ice Age. You can just really understand the cold. Once you have crossed Pichelsdorfer Straße, you are already strolling through the next idyllic park. The south park with its lake of the same name and numerous water birds attracts Spandau's residents in every season. Whether for short walks or even a round with runners over the ice - but remember that an enclosed ice surface always harbors a danger.Typical Spandau charm envelops you on the way back through small streets and along the moat. If you like, you can make a quick visit to the ancient old town before the S-Bahn takes you back home.
