For your first day in this region, you will pass through the historic places of this small plot of France, which owes its prestige to this famous sparkling wine called champagne. When leaving the Épernay SNCF station, I will take you on a small detour through the historic city center and the famous Avenue de Champagne. This avenue is impressive! Its magnificence illustrates the rise and wealth of these Champagne houses with famous names. You leave Épernay going up through the vineyards to Hautvillers, the birthplace of champagne. I invite you to enter the abbey church, to pay homage to Dom Pérignon for his invention. On leaving the hamlet, the route takes you to make a small detour to admire the bucolic view over the Marne valley. After passing through the forest, you begin the descent to the village of Fleury-la-Rivière. In this hamlet, Legrand-Latour champagnes and their “shell cellar” are the inventors of an astonishing concept: “oneo-geology”. Come and discover this incredible place that will appeal to all curious. The route continues along a road that overlooks the Marne valley, offering you splendid landscapes. It will take you to the village of Châtillon-sur-Marne, easily recognizable from afar by its monumental statue of Pope Urban II. This is where this first day, rich in visits, ends. There are many housing options available to you.
