2,277 meters above sea level is the summit cross of the Hochschwab. This 20-kilometer hike takes you up alpine trails and rewards you with great views. Start is at the Alpengasthof Bodenbauer. From here it does not take long for the climb to begin. After three kilometers, the trail leads you past the Trawiesalm, then it gets steeper and you cross the tree line. At 1,785 meters, you can refresh yourself by the bubbling spring water from the G'hacktbrunn. From here you have a fantastic view to the Hochschwab south walls and into the karaden landscape in front. Now it's getting adventurous: zigzag paths lead you up into the hack. On this steep passage you will find kicks, ladders and railings that will give you support. If you have mastered this section, it is not far to the summit cross. Just a short detour to the Schiestelhaus, before wandering over the plateau back to the starting point. For this hike, it is important that you are sure-footed and free from giddiness. Refreshments can be found several along the route. The G'hacktbrunnen provides you with fresh drinking water. You still have energy for more after the hike? Then a detour to the Aflenzer Bürgeralm is worthwhile. There is an impressive skywalk, a large nature experience playground and a cozy hut to stop off. You can read more here: aflenzer-buergeralm.at.If you are looking for a restaurant for the completion of the hiking day, then reserve a table in the inn Steirereck am Pogusch. The menu promises refined, simple and authentic dishes. A look at the map can be found here: steirereck-pogusch.at.You can find a cozy room nearby in the Hotel Roanwirt in St. Lorenzen in the Mürztal. The four-poster bed in the romantic room is particularly comfortable after a long day of hiking. Book here at roanwirt.at.
