VERKEHRSVERBUND GROSSRAUM NÜRNBERG planned a hike.
February 26, 2019
On this hike, you will experience the Neumarkt beer variety first-hand. But that's not all: Wonderful views, historic churches, mystical forests and mysterious castle ruins line the path of this 15-kilometer hike, where you'll climb up 367 steps! It starts at the central station of Neumarkt (lines R5 / S3), where a sign informs you about the Neumarkt beer variety. If you want to live up to the motto of the tour, you can do it with a hearty morning drink in the Upper Ganskeller. Add a yummy white sausage and you're ready for the rest of the hike. Now you are walking along the Badstraße to the monastery of St. Josef, where the Neumarkter Lammsbräu is waiting for you. Highly recommended are also the monastery water from the healing spring "Kloster St. Josef Quelle" and the excellent coffee drinks with fresh milk, before the steps to the Mariahilfberg are climbed - the non-alcoholic variant is here anyway not a bad idea. 367 steps are now in front of you! On the left and on the right, hiking trails open up, including the Zeugenberg round (an award-winning hiking trail with the label "Leading quality trail - best of europe"). Just below the church, which can be seen from afar, on a viewing platform with a panoramic map, you can enjoy a fantastic view of the city and the neighboring witness mountains, which are arranged like pearls around Neumarkt. Really worth seeing is the church itself.A footpath will carry you up to the parking lot of the church, and a little later you will reach Höhenberg. Here comes the 4-element path to your route, it will be a part of your companion. Thirsty for half a beer? The Hotel Schönblick (with a wonderful panoramic terrace) and - a little further - the Landhotel Almrefugio offer you the opportunity to do so. In the village you turn right once and get on a small footpath to the bus stop. Now it is quiet: You reach a quaint, completely overgrown old quarry in which rare birds nest. The magnificent, forested path winds along the slope of the Albtrauf and finally reaches the village of Fuchsberg. Past varied bush and hedgerows, you will reach the castle ruin of Wolfstein, the symbol of Neumarkt, which can be seen from afar on a mountain spur. Here again is a panoramic map - and you have a magnificent panorama.Passing sunny dry grasslands, junipers and solitary sloes, you set out on the descent. Again and again, there are opportunities to stop off. Whether in the mountain hotel Sammüller, in the brewery inn Blomenhof or at the destination of the hike, in the Neumarkt old town - everywhere you can enjoy regional specialties that you should not miss. The starting point of the tour you can easily reach by train from Nuremberg (R5 or S3). If you would like to visit the Landesgartenschaugelände in Neumarkt please note that no dogs are allowed there.
