This short round on the outskirts of Bochum is ideal as a crisp Feierabendlauf: It starts from the site of the Ruhr University and is easily accessible by tram or by car. And if you do not have the distance, you can easily extend it.
Let's start at the Ruhruni, where you can start the round directly at the S-Bahn station, or - if you come by car - from one of the numerous parking lots. You briefly roam the impressive university grounds and dive immediately into a small forest, which is located exactly between the university and the Kemnader lake. There are countless little trails waiting to be discovered by you and to lead you down to the Lottental and from there to the lake.
The Kemnader Lake attracts many Bochumers with good weather in its relaxing ambience. But even if the large parking lot on the north bank sometimes seems a bit crowded, on the numerous paths around the lake, it is good, so you can always run in peace. Different paths lead around the lake. On the section we use, there is even a single trail just above the shore, away from the paved bike and walking paths right on the water. So you have the choice: from the relaxed run in the plane to the varied ups and downs in the forest everything is in it.
After following the lakeshore for a while, the route bends back towards Bochum. A nice climb followed by a narrow downhill trail and you're back in the lot valley. From here you follow the Kalwesbach, which brings you back to the university via a beautiful forest path.
This round has plenty of potential to be extended by you if you want to keep going. If you like being flat and on asphalt, you can circle the Kemnader Lake - a plus of about seven kilometers. On the north shore of the lake and in the Kalwes forest below the university invite loads of trails to a small encore.
