In order to enjoy a portion of nature and to take gravel or beautiful trails under the running shoes instead of asphalt, you do not always have to turn your back on the city. On this tour you start in the middle of Dortmund on a beautiful run, which leads you through the Rombergpark and along the Phoenix Lake. Of course, no alpine altitude training awaits you, but the route is wonderfully quiet and completely avoids the hustle and bustle of the city. Start and finish of the round is here directly at the legendary Signal Iduna Park, the venue of BVB. If you are visiting Dortmund, an absolutely worth seeing highlight. If you live in Dortmund, on the other hand, we do not have to tell you to celebrate this place in peace.
So it starts on the stadium parking lot, from which you quickly run to the Emscher. It was once considered the dirtiest river of the pot - today it has been renatured over long distances and offers walkers, cyclists and runners a magnificent backdrop for a great time in nature. The Emscher leads you directly to the Phoenix lake. In the past, the steel stoves bounced, and here is a popular recreational area - on the shores of the lake there are noble villas in which one or the other football star of the BVB lives. A short detour to the New Kaiserberg gives you a great overview of the lake and various relics from the time of iron and steel.
On the way back, the route leads you over the site of the former Phoenix-West Blast Furnace, an impressive industrial monument that you can explore on your run. Then you can reach the Rombergpark with a botanical garden, where you can enjoy all sorts of trail variations, including little detours from our route. That way, you can extend your run a bit more if you want. If you have enough, you are on the way back. Soon you will see the huge pillars of the gigantic football stadium where you have reached the goal of the round.
