Nowhere else is there such a dense and well-developed cycle path network on old railway lines, as in the Ruhr area. Where once the railways brought raw materials to the factories or transported coal, today you roll silently through the quiet hinterland of the former industrial stronghold. As a rule, the old routes run far away from traffic and without significant gradients. In the course of deindustrialization, a network of exceptionally good cycle paths has been created here. You start the rather short tour with 36 kilometers at the Jahrhunderthalle in Bochum. Enough time to explore this exciting place - the mix of old industrial buildings and green oasis adds to a remarkable atmosphere. Old and new meet here and there are many nice places to pause, where you can have this great atmosphere on you. Then it starts: Over the Erzbahntrasse you drive towards Gelsenkirchen, where a stop at Holgers Erzbahnbude is actually mandatory. Racing bikers, e-bikers and recreational cyclists meet at the iconic booth to enjoy a cup of coffee, a piece of cake and sometimes even live music. In summer there is something going on here even in the late evening.Continue on the Kray-Wanner-Bahn into the Ruhr Valley to the Railway Museum Bochum-Dahlhausen. For the largest private railway museum in Germany, you can also plan some time again and maybe you even feel like taking a ride on the museum railway. About the Springorum cycle path it goes back to Bochum. If you still feel like having an evening program, we can recommend a pub crawl in the notorious Bermuda Triangle or - more dignified - a visit to the well-known musical "Starlight Express".
