Bike Touring Highlight (Segment)
Planned by radrevier.ruhr
Anyone who has never been to the Ruhr area outside the major city centers will hardly believe how green it is in the surrounding area. This bike tour is the proof that the pot is no longer gray and dusty, but is wonderfully quiet and green. On the RevierRoute "Garden City - experience contrasts" you get to see the concentrated beauty of flora and fauna in Radrevier.ruhr - and almost no traffic. The approximately 48-kilometer round trip is a bit hilly - but also totally idyllic and above all so low in traffic that it is still ideally suited for children. You are almost exclusively on the attractive routes, which were created especially for cyclists. You start at Mülheim central station and turn directly onto the "RS1", the German flagship bike path, which brings you on a wide road in the direction of Essen. Here you change to the Grugatrasse - a detour into the green Grugapark offers itself. On the way down to the Ruhr you pass the garden city Margarethenhöhe. Once established as a workers' settlement, it is considered one of the most beautiful settlements in the Ruhrgebiet. If you like, you can take a detour here for a break. The Ruhrtalradweg, one of the most popular cycling routes in Germany, will take you along Lake Baldeney to the historic districts of Werden and Kettwig. Here it is worthwhile to take a short stroll into the historic half-timbered old town - the cozy cafés invite you to take a break. Then you drive through the picturesque Ruhrauen back to Mülheim Hauptbahnhof. As it is a circuit, you can of course enter the route everywhere. Our tour starts at Mülheim Hauptbahnhof and is therefore particularly suitable for traveling by train. The route crosses other popular bike paths through the Ruhrpott in many places, so you can vary the tour at will.
