A demanding round that brings us from the heart of Tuscany within sight of the sea.
Massa Marittima is a popular tourist destination in a privileged position high above the plain that stretches to the Gulf of Follonica. The Piazza Garibaldi with the impressive cathedral is perfect for strengthening the way back ... but in turn.
From Colle di Val d 'Elsa it goes via Casole d' Elba to the lonely Castelnuovo in Val di Cecina. A small place, which invites with several bars for the first coffee break.
It then continues wavy until a long descent brings us to the foot of Massa Marittima. The beautiful old town with the mentioned Piazza is reached quickly.
A piece follows the return of the same street as before. Two ascents take us up the valley of Merse up to Montieri. Now it is primarily downhill. Apart from a few waves, the arrival in Colle di Val d'Elsa is nothing serious in the way.
If you have enough on reaching the main road in Elsatal, you can also turn right here and drive straight back. If you still feel like crunchy waves, follow the track via Pievescuola, which reaches our destination via low-traffic side roads.
A long and high-altitude round, but which includes a lot of landscape aspects.
