Your bike tour starts in Neuhaus am Rennweg. Here you come best with the South Thuringia train (sued-thueringen-bahn.de). This runs several times daily between the main station Sonnenberg, where you have access to the trains of the Deutsche Bahn, and Neuhaus am Rennweg. At the train station, you swing on your bike and drive out of the village and into the beautiful forests of the Thuringian Slate Mountains. By the way, Neuhaus am Rennweg, with over 800 meters, is so high that you hardly have to drive uphill to cross the low mountain ridge. Along the popular hiking trail Rennsteig you cycle through the rustic forest. On the way you come to cozy rest stops and resting places over, such as the ice field Ausspanne. From here you can take a short detour to the upper Werra spring. Then a long descent awaits you, which leads to the Werrafloßteich and from there parallel to the Werra through the nature of the forest into the valley. Here you then roll on the last few kilometers of the first stage through picturesque meadows and fields to the stage destination Eisfeld.
