    Today's plan was actually to cycle via Kufstein to Kiefersfelden, but the old Zollhausbrücke in Erl is currently closed due to revision work until mid-2022. So we had to continue cycling on the German side and then made the loop in Kiefersfelden. Once again a great tour with some headwinds, there is actually more to do with us in the lowlands 🤭

    To the south of the narrow valley near Erl, the cold air flows out to higher altitudes. On the narrow valley near Erl, dynamic effects (transition from subcritical to supercritical flow) create the Erler wind. The heavy cold air "falls" downwards and accelerates in the process. As a result, north of the valley, the outflow of cold air is limited to a relatively thin layer (up to approx. 300m above ground) and the wind speed is relatively high.
    The lateral boundaries of the wind field are often very pronounced. While there is no wind in downtown Rosenheim, there can be gusts of 50 km / h at the station.
    The Erler wind occurs mainly in high pressure weather conditions at night and in the morning. In winter it can blow all day.
