The third and final day of our mini-adventure begins. We strap our seven things to the bikes one last time and set off. It is always fascinating how you perceive the landscape on a bike tour. Since we started driving in Zeeland, we have seen a constantly changing environment. The wide fields and beaches of Zeeland, the deep forests and sandy heathland of Brabant and finally Limburg with its many canals and rolling green hills. The southern Netherlands is incredibly diverse and beautiful. The perfect infrastructure for cyclists does the rest to ensure that we are always on safe paths and that we feel completely at ease.At Hamont we cross the border with Belgium. Shortly afterwards we drive many kilometers along a canal on which small houseboats are traveling. The bike path leads straight along the waterway, here we can pace. We then leave the canal around Bree for an adventurous detour over gravel and meadow paths. Obviously there is not much traffic on these trails. Some of them are a bit overgrown. After about 14 kilometers over hill and dale, the canal welcomes us again with its well-paved bike path. He's taking us to Dilsen-Stokkem. Here a pastry shop entices us to take a break before we reach the Maas behind the city and thus the Dutch border. After a short ferry crossing - free of charge for cyclists - we find ourselves in South Limburg. In Stein we stop for a leisurely lunch break on a terrace. After two rather gray and cool days, the sun is now shining and it has become really warm. Then it goes into the hills. Over some beautiful gravel roads we approach the German border with a lot of ups and downs. The landscape has nothing in common with Zeeland. The last few kilometers through Aachen's city traffic to the main train station are a stark contrast to the quiet and seclusion of the last few days. In just three days we crossed the Netherlands, saw and experienced an infinite amount. We will draw from this adventure for a long time to come.
