Only half an hour away from Berlin, a natural paradise opens up that will captivate all your senses.
"The enchanted Löcknitz Valley - the loveliest valley of the Mark"
The 489 hectare Löcknitztal nature reserve is embedded between the chain of lakes in the north and the Müggel-Spree in the south.
The name is the Löcknitz, a near-natural tributary to the Spree, which meanders 15 km through an almost untouched natural valley.
"Pure nature" - unique flora and fauna in the "Löcknitztal" nature reserve. Many different species of birds, fish and butterflies have their home there.
The actual hiking trail extends for about eight kilometers. From the Fangschleuse train station, behind the Great Wall Bridge, always along the Löcknitz through the natural valley to Hangelsberg. The "Löcknitztalweg" is well signposted.
Since I'm a fan of longer distances, I extended the route by about twelve kilometers.
Enchanted - right from the start, the path ran close to the banks of the Löcknitz.
The hiking trail is small and cute, there was little going on and incredibly quiet.
My personal highlight was the small bridge between Wupatzsee and Löknitz, a fairytale picture of the lake and its tributary.
It went on to Woltersdorf. Along the Flakensee, a signposted bank hike leads to the small, beautiful village. I felt right at home and enjoyed a beer in a deck chair with a direct view of the lake.
The last highlight was the Kranchichsberg. On the mountain there is a 25 meter high observation tower ("Kron-Prinz-Friedrich-Wilhelm-Turm")
For a small fee, you have to climb another 25 meters on 90 steps in the tower in order to be able to enjoy a wonderful view as far as Berlin and the Müggelsee. Unfortunately, the viewing platform is closed with windows.
Then it went back through the woods to the starting point at the Grünheide Fangschleuse station.
A nice tour - lots of nature and many highlights.
