S-Bahn Berlin planned a hike.
October 8, 2018
Directly on the shores of the large Wannsee is the same-named Wannsee station, the southern terminus of the S-Bahn line S1. Instead of a walk on the Wannsee, we have prepared a tour along the Grunewaldseenkette - Schlachtensee, Krumme Lanke, Grunewaldsee and Hundekehlsee. The four lakes are located along a glacier channel of the last ice age and are surrounded on all sides by dense forest. The S-Bahn station Wannsee is approached every 20 minutes from the S1 and every 10 minutes from the S7. You leave the station and walk along the magnificent Gründerzeit villas. On the so-called spinner bridge you cross the Avus motorway and shortly after crossing the suburban train tracks, you enter the Grunewald.Right at the beginning of the trail leads you along the long north shore of the Battle Lake. At the northeasternmost point of the lake is also the first rest stop of your hike: the fisherman's hut. From here it is only a few meters through the forest to Krummen Lanke, the nearest lake on your tour. Here you can also walk along the north-west bank of the long lake. The northern shores of Krummen Lanke and Grunewaldsee are connected by the narrow Fenngraben. The lazy stream meanders through a marshy forest area and the trail leads you right along the course of the stream. On the shores of Grunewaldsee, the venerable Forsthaus Paulsborn awaits you with its cozy café-restaurant. Especially on cool days is now the perfect time to warm up. Then you walk along the shore of the lake to the hunting lodge Grunewald, where you can visit the museum or the castle café.The wide promenade leads you through the forest along the Grunewald and finally you reach the S-Bahn station Grunewald. From here it goes back every 10 minutes with the S7 line back home.
