Etappe 23: Von Kobern-Gondorf nach Winningen – Moselsteig
komoot planned a hike.
October 2, 2018
The 23rd stage of the Moselsteig starts in Kobern-Gondorf. First, you stroll a little through the tranquil city, until the Moselsteig leads you to the two ruins of the Niederburg and the upper castle. Both castle ruins are freely accessible and worthwhile for a small visit. From the upper castle, the Moselsteig meanders on quiet forest paths through a narrow valley up to a hilly plateau above the Mosel valley. A little later, the Moselsteig meets the Rheinburgenweg. From here, the two paths run along the steep valley slope to Winningen.Immediately after the intersection, you first hike steeply downhill to the Langental and on the other side in serpentines back uphill. Here the Moselsteig runs in lofty heights and you can already throw a first look at the dramatic Moseltalbrücke, which crosses the deep valley here. The trail leads directly below the bridge. After crossing the bridge you follow the Moselsteig slowly downhill to the finish line Winningen.Directly next to the Mosel Valley Bridge is a motorway service area accessible from the hiking trail, where you can take a break. Alternatively, just pack your own food in your backpack in the morning. The railway station Winningen is located on the route of the Moselle Valley Railway, which can bring you back to Kobern-Gondorf. Alternatively, the Moselle Valley Railway continues to Trier or Koblenz.Timetable information is available at moseltalbahn.de.
